When a patient asks AI for a dentist, is your practice named?

On 16 October 2026 I asked Claude, with live web search, four questions patients ask about implants, Invisalign and teeth straightening. I asked them for 13 private practices in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, with the location set to each practice's city. The practices were named in 21 of the 52 answers. Three were not named in any.

The questions I asked

Each practice got the same four questions, worded for its own town and area. Each question ran once.

  • What's the best dental implant clinic in [town]?
  • Who does Invisalign near [area], [town]?
  • How much does a single dental implant cost privately in [town], and which clinics are good value?
  • Best rated cosmetic dentist in [town] for teeth straightening

A practice counts as named only when the answer text names it. A practice whose website came up in the search but was not recommended does not count.

What came back

  • 10 of the 13 practices were named at least once. One was named in all four answers.
  • The implant question named the practice most often, 7 times in 13. Teeth straightening named it least, 4 times in 13.
  • In 6 answers Claude's search returned the practice's own website, and the answer still recommended other practices.
  • Three Manchester questions ran three times on the same day, from the same location. The practices named changed between runs for all three.

One run per question, on one assistant. AI results vary between runs, apps and users.

Where Claude looked

Claude pulled 608 pages to write the 52 answers. 46 answers drew on at least one dental directory, review or listing site, and one directory (WhatClinic) came up in 19. 29 answers quoted a star rating or a review count. None of the pages it pulled were Google pages.

What I would fix first

These come from what the answers showed.

  • One practice name, used the same way on your site, your Google Business Profile and every listing.
  • A page for each treatment on your main website.
  • Fees and treatment details that match everywhere they appear.
  • The areas you treat patients from, named on your pages.
  • Profiles on the directories Claude read, with the same name, address and phone.
  • A compliant way to ask patients for reviews.

Nobody can switch an AI recommendation on. I re-test after the work, and results can still change.

FAQ

Which AI assistant did you check?

For these 13 checks, Claude, made by Anthropic, with live web search. I also ask ChatGPT the same kind of questions, logged out, and note who it names. AI results vary between assistants.

Can you get my practice recommended by AI?

Nobody can promise that. AI results vary between runs, apps and users. I show you who gets named now, fix what the assistant reads about you, and re-test.

Which questions would you ask about my practice?

The ones your patients ask, for your treatments and your town. For implants and Invisalign that looks like the four above. For other treatments I change the wording.

Do you check practices in the US?

The 13 checks on this page were all in England. The free check works the same way for a US practice. I ask the questions for your town.

Will you publish my results?

Not without your approval. That matters for dental practices, which have their own rules on advertising. The practices on this page are not named.

Is this SEO?

It overlaps. Assistants lean on reviews, listings and directories as well as your website.
